Carlson Sanctuary – Common Species List

This list is by no means complete, instead, it shows some "highlights" a visitor may encounter at our bog. Many species are seasonal, and some would only be spotted on a few days each year. Others are year-round residents.

Separate lists for Birds, Reptiles/Amphibians, Insects, Mammals, Plants/Shrubs

We attempt a bit of a key: common name / habitat / season. Some images are also included.
(Note that common name in this list is not necessarily the actual "common" name, but rather what most people call this critter. For instance, we list Chicadee, rather than Black-capped Chickadee, as we would expect most people to look for "Chicadee"— experienced birders who desire more accuracy won't be using our list anyway.)
